Each quarter, the ‘Corridor Champion’ series highlights a standout entrepreneur whose work is shaping and being shaped by the DBEC region. In this edition, the spotlight turns to Shane Reenan, CEO and co‑founder of Retech Offshore, a company rapidly emerging as a key player in the renewable energy technology sector.

Founded in 2024 by Shane and his brother Niall, Retech Offshore has positioned itself as Ireland’s first secure‑by‑design, zero‑trust industrial remote access platform for the renewable energy sector. Its model combines hardware sales with a subscription service, giving customers both the connection hardware needed for their infrastructure and a secure system to access and share real‑time operational data.

Based in Dundalk, Co. Louth, the Reenan brothers recognised early the opportunity created by increasing political emphasis on non‑fossil fuel energy and the forthcoming offshore windfarm in the Irish Sea, due for completion in 2029. From the outset, they tapped into the extensive business supports available along the corridor, a move they credit as fundamental to their momentum to date.

One of the pivotal early supports was the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher scheme, which enabled Retech Offshore to collaborate with CREDIT Technology Gateway (TG), Dundalk Institute of Technology’s renewables team. The partnership offered access to specialist mentorship and facilities, accelerating the development of their offering. Additional technical grounding came through CREDIT, whose expertise in wind and distributed energy, zero-carbon solutions, and energy integration helped the company refine emerging technologies into almost market-ready solutions.

As the business evolved, Retech Offshore moved into FURTHR, the incubation hub at the Guinness Storehouse. The team describes this phase as a launchpad: six months of masterclasses, investor pitch preparation, and strategic mentoring sharpened their approach and readied them for commercial engagement.

That preparation is now paying off. In recent weeks, the company has secured PSSF seed funding, ongoing business mentoring, and its first commercial client. This investment, designed to deliver a return rather than grant funding, is enabling the company to expand its market presence through trade show participation and prototype demonstrations.

Retech is also investing in the future talent pipeline. By enabling PhD students and researchers at the National Centre for Isotope Geochemistry in UCD to securely access, control and retrieve data from high-precision isotope mass spectrometers remotely, rather than travelling to UCD, the company supports international academic collaboration while showcasing new use cases for its platform.

Reflecting on their journey, Shane points to the corridor as a strategic advantage:

“When we look at the European market, we’re in the right place. With new offshore wind farms coming online from 2028-29, the geography works, the business supports have fast‑tracked our development, and the access to universities gives us direct engagement with the engineers who will shape our future workforce.

“The signposting from DBEC has been invaluable. To make the corridor a success for investors and entrepreneurs, the infrastructure needs to support supply chains and people. Being involved in these conversations with political stakeholders and transport bodies has elevated our business and ensured our voice is heard.”

Looking ahead, the company’s next milestone is securing further investment from Enterprise Ireland or a global venture capital firm. Retech Offshore is also broadening its focus to include military clients, where its secure cloud‑based system offers significant potential for managing sensitive remote system and maintenance data.

For Shane and Niall, the roadmap is clear: build on their early success, improve their visibility across Europe, and continue strengthening the security backbone of the renewable energy sector. As Shane puts it, “the hard work starts now.”
