A region with unique assets and significant economic activity

Meath is a successful, diverse and highly attractive place in which to live and conduct business, with many opportunities for businesses to thrive.

Strong transportation links provide easy access to major cities such as Belfast and Dublin, offering additional business and leisure opportunities, skilled workers, suppliers and customers.

Meath has had the highest recent population growth of any county in the State (19.9%, between 2011-2022). A relatively young population (0-19) means it is a community and future skills pool on the rise.

The Meath Economic Development Team has just launched its Strategic Action Plan aimed at fostering sustainable growth, attracting investment, and enhancing the quality of life for all.

A diverse economy and multinational hub

County Meath has a diverse economy with several key industry sectors. Its three most significant are agriculture and food, tourism and heritage, and manufacturing and industry. Multinational corporations have invested their business in Meath, including Meta, MSD, and Amazon.

Meath’s strategic location and major transportation routes make it an attractive location for industrial enterprises. Proximity to Dublin allows the area to play a major part in the development of the National Gateway.

The presence of business parks and industrial estates further supports development. Meath offers 12 strategic employment sites with readily available infrastructure and is well serviced by 856 hectares of new residential zoned land.

Historic, scenic beauty and a highly educated population.

Meath is rich in history and culture, with over 3,000 monuments and heritage sites such as the Hill of Tara, Newgrange and Trim Castle. The Boyne Valley, blueways and greenways, beaches, and the proposed Bru na Boinne National Park contribute to the area’s scenic beauty.

Residents and businesses have access to both national and international markets via Meath’s modern infrastructure, including four motorways, three expanding rail lines, and easy access to major ferry ports.

Maynooth University, Dundalk Institute of Technology and TUD – Blanchardstown contribute to a highly educated workforce.

Meath County Council launched its new Food and Tourism strategies in June 2024, with plans to continue investing heavily in both industries through the Discover Boyne Valley Flavours Network, The Centre of Food Culture Boyne Valley national initiative and the Discover Boyne Valley brand.
